God of War 2 for the Playstation2 is an 3rd person adventure videogame that has won awards for its brilliance. The hugely loved God Of War I videogame was voted as a classic masterpiece, by all counts, and yet the sequel has bettered it and has emerged as probably the best game ever on Playstation2.

God of War 2 places you within Greek legend where you play the tough and angry Kratos, recently crowned as the new god of war (following on nicely from the first game). Still unsatisfied, The powerful armies of Kratos have defeated everything in their path which (along with his general disrespectful attitude) has enraged Zeus, the King of Olympus, to the point that he strips him of his power and banishes Kratos to Hades.

From Hades travel long distances to reach the lost temple of the Sisters of Fate, to get the help of Zeus' old foes the Titans, and get your revenge. The videogame is brilliantly paced, putting you in a massive world with truly believable atmospherics in a way not seen before. To complete the mission, you'll have to battle some fearless mythological characters (practically all those you've heard of), uncover the answers to problems that bar your way, fight your way past seemingly unbeatable boss characters, and show (yet again) that you're the most brutal being ever created.

God of War 2 is very much a fighting game at heart and gives you more weapons, magic and combos to learn than you would ever have wished for in the first game. While God of War 1 only offered you one weapon, GOW2 gives you lots more, which can be made stronger with attack force and unlockable moves and functions. There is a huge amount of flexibility in combat, with levels that offer up constant surprises. Re-playability is excellent as well – you can maintain your bonuses for the second time around, giving you a different choice of how to face the same enemies again.

The graphics and sound of GOW2 is truly awe-inspiring. The orchestral background music really helps you to get into the videogame, and matching the action perfectly with whatever you are busy doing; blending with the action. The animations are spectacular, with fine attention to detail, and a camera that doesn't make playing annoying but improves gameplay greatly – always in the right place at the right time and able to view all the details. The voice acting is very good, and the sound effects that further bring it to life.

The amazing lighting and particle special effects of the videogame, along with the textures and backgrounds, further add to it’s already impressive appearance, and help to make God of War 2 truly the most beautiful videogame on the SONY Playstation2.

God of War 2 might not be for all gamers (having a Mature rating for violence) but it is certainly the best action-packed videogame on the Playstation2 and an amazing experience. Its intensity and fun, massive replay value and unbeaten atmosphere make GOW2- without doubt- the finest Playstation2 videogame you can get.
