Utilizing Scrapbooking To Keep Your Memories Alive For A Lifetime

By: Johnathan Sproles

Scrapbooking can be a fantastic way to preserve personal and family memories. Scrapbooking allows you to be imaginative and inventive while making a treasured family heirloom.
It is necessary to get materials together before you start scrapbooking. Lurking in the attic may be shoeboxes and dresser drawers with long-forgotten pictures. Get right in there and see what there is to work with.
Separate your pictures into whatever categories you plan to scrapbook by. You can use these categories to create themes for your scrapbooks. There are many possible themes: trips, school, games and athletics, special dances, or other reminiscences you want to keep. With your first scrapbook, make sure to select a theme and stick with that theme no matter what. This will help your scrapbook to stay cohesive and meaningful.
Once you have chosen your theme, pick the best pictures of each category. The photos that express your thoughts and feelings are better than the most aesthetically pleasing ones. It's okay if the photo is off-centered, fuzzy, or overexposed; errors can always be cropped out. Note that the photographs you preserved for your scrapbook can be used to fill up the pages efficiently.
Along with your photos, you may want to find other mementos that are related to your category. Adding items such as ticket stubs, a playbill, or pressed flowers can make your scrapbook pages more decorative and meaningful.
After that you will want to create the layout for your page. This is the most challenging, but the most rewarding part of creating a scrapbook. Really let your imagination run wild! Be creative with the way you lay out your pages. You will want to design your scrapbook pages to tell a story and have a consistent theme. Use colored paper as background for your pages, scraps that you can make a collage out of, pieces of felt, fabric, or other unconventional background materials. You can really use anything that will give interest to your page.
Your backgrounds can make the photos interesting by just laying them in different positions Before you glue anything down, play with the layout to strike the balance on your pages that you find the most satisfactory. Scrapbooking is fun and you can design your pages accordingly to what your desire is for that page. This is the part of the process that is the most time-consuming, but it is also not the one that you want to rush. In the end, it is the way the scrapbook looks that will make it stand out the most.
To get ideas on layouts, you may need to do your research. Ultimately, you should use whatever layout is the most pleasing to you, but there is no shame in looking into pre-made layout guides for inspiration.
Insert your finishing embellishments. Here is where you would enter the text that would explain your photographs, glitter, gems, buttons or other interesting additions to your page.
You should keep in mind that scrapbooking is not just about the final product, but also about the work and love that you put into it in the process. If one chooses to put affection and care into their scrapbook, there is no doubt they will be ultimately pleased with their work. Joyful scrapbooking!
