Top 5 Reasons to Visit Lake Lure

Beautiful Lake Lure was created when the Broad River was dammed by the Carolina Mountain Power Company in 1927. During ordinary levels, the lake is about 720 acres in size with about 27 miles of shoreline. Today the lake is still used as a main source of electricity, but it is also a common fishing area for everyone who wants to come visit for the wonderful water skiing, boating and fishing that is offered year round. Consider five reasons why this is such a wonderful lake to visit for your summer water skiing needs.

#1 For a relaxing boating experience you can tour the lake in a canoe, or sit on top of a kayak or any other type of boat you want to bring or decide to rent. There are even electric boats that you can rent which can transport a family of twelve. Many local bed and breakfasts will even include boat rentals in the cost of the hotel room. What better way to spend your vacation than calmly drifting around a beautiful lake taking in the wonderful sites.

#2 If you want to get wet then there is no better place to spend you summer swimming than Lake Lure. Lake Lure features a unique Isothermal Effect. This means that before the end of April the water temperature can rise to the upper seventies. During the summer the water temperature can be into the eighties and it will stay warm long into October.

This means that you can swim and enjoy boating activities in Lake Lure earlier in the summer season or after the summer season has ended. The purity of the water also makes it a great area to wakerboard. During daylight hours there are two swimming pools located on the mountain that are open to swimming.

#3 For the sportsman there are wonderful fishing opportunities at Lake Lure. In fact the Rocky Broad River above the lake is a two mile stretch that is one of the most heavily stocked trout stream in the entire state with over ten thousand fish a year. Some of the fish you can catch in this lake include rainbow trout, brown trout, large and small mouth bass, crappie, white bass, catfish, bluegill and sun-perch.

#4 For the adventurous individual there are plenty of water sports options as well. All kinds of pontoon and ski boats can be rented to make the most of your water sport experience. Various activities that have been enjoyed on this lake include kneeboarding, wakeboarding and slalom skiing. Although pretty much any type of water sport you want to do can be done on this lake.

#5 finaly there is the enjoyment of boat tours that you can take around the lake. These tours will guide you to local landmarks and attractions such as the locations of popular Hollywood movies such as Dirty Dancing, Fire Starter and more. The tours allow you to take advantage of the natural beauty while learning about the area as well. You wont find a better way to spend your summer than on such a wonderful and calming lake.
