Renee Cassar, Australia's Singer/Songwriter Sweetheart

Renee Cassar's motto - as shown on her Myspace page is "No Music, No Life." One might assume that an indvidual who espoused a philosophy like this would have been pursuing music since they were in diapers, wouldn't you?

Well, that's not the case with Australian Songwriter and Performer Renee Cassar. In point of fact, as a youngster, she devoted her time and talents to another pursuit - tennis. Renee was a competitive tennis player throughout her formative years and was intensely focused on her athletic pursuits, to the exclusion of all other dreams and interests.

But, at 17 years old, everything in her life changed. I am sure that anyone that listens to her music would affirm the change was for the better.

Renee's major in school was theater, and as you would guess, her goal was to act as a member of the cast of the show that her school was putting on that year. The one problem? It was Fame, which was a musical, and Renee had never tried her hand at singing! Still, the audition piece was "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," and so she gave it her best try. When the lead role of Carmen went to her, it must have been completely unexpected!

She did, in fact, take some singing lessons before opening night rolled around in order to prepare, she was still very green when she made her first appearance in front of an audience. To add to the drama, all those well-meant singing lessons had caused her to lose her voice! Even still, she merely found out what people used for common voice remedies and stocked them up backstage, and then she forged on and sang the role. It was the start of a new life.
