How To Choose An Online Business

By: Mel McDoogle

Wisely choosing an online business can be tough. There are many fabulous companies, products and people. So what is essential in an online or home business? Here are some helpful questions to ask when looking at an online or home based business:

1. How costly is it to start this business? Tens of thousands is obviously unrealistic, but so is zero. Many businesses that don’t require much money or any money up front also don’t have a lucrative compensation plan. What is the potential Return on Investment? A good compensation plan should look like the one that you can view by clicking here and moving on to the next page.

2. Do you need to add another room to your house to do contain inventory for this business? If yes, can you afford that? The best businesses no longer require a home inventory. You are not starting a brick and mortar business. Most companies hold their products in their facilities until it is ordered directly from the customers you sign up. A few information or software companies do everything online. This is the most efficient model for the Information Age.

3. Is integrity important to this company? This is priority #1! Businesses with questionable ethics can go under and all your hard work will dissipate. Integrity is vital to your long term success.

4. What is the weekly time requirement and long term? Initially, it can be more labor intensive. You are getting training about the products, mechanics, setting up your accounts, etc. Even with an easy system, it will still require some elbow grease.

5. How long does it take to make money? You want to make money almost immediately. There are several businesses out there that allow you to “learn while you earn”. If you are not making at least 75% of the upfront commission when you make a sale, forget it. This means that you are doing all the work and the company or the person above you is making all the money. And, if you can’t break even or get into profit with 3 sales, forget it. 6. Can you speak to the owners if you wish? If you can’t speak with the owners or the corporate office via phone or webinar, forget it. Know who you are doing business with before you start. Too many places online have zero support services and it can take days to get the answer you needed yesterday.

7. Are you in it for the long haul? Program jumping divides your time, causes burn out, and loss of trust by your recruits. Many other business owners will want you to join with them because they know you have an entrepreneurial bent. Kindly reply “No”. If you pick the right business in the first place, why would you want to jump ship and start the learning curve again?

8. Is this business a good fit? Does it make sense for your life? Once presented with the information, you must make sure it’s a good fit for you. Your decision should be 100% ok with the person wanting you to join. If the opportunity aligns with the integrity of your heart then go for it!

9. When you called the person owning the web site were they friendly and available for you? Did they call back promptly? Ask them what else they promote to get a feel for if they are spread out or available for helping you.

10. Ask yourself if this business fit nicely with your long term goals? Often you can find a business that will actually help you gain your other long term desires, as well as your monetary goals. The business that I am involved with has taught me skills that have helped me have increased success in numerous areas of life. In fact, some of my dreams are coming to fruition partly due to the business training I received! That is a true blessing that I was not expecting.

11. Does the company provide quality training for members who do NOT have previous experience? The training should include product training, and good business/personal skills. Many people think within the realm of an employee, not an owner, so business training is critical. Good training helps new members learn to think like successful owners.
