Feng Shui Tips on Selecting the Location of a Home.

By: fongsuimy

Feng Shui, the study of the influence of our environment on our lives, is particularly concerned with the location of our home, since most of our life is spent there.
Exactly what are the signs to watch for?
According to very old Chinese beliefs, the existence of Sheng Qi around us is very important for our wellness. The meaning of Sheng Qi is living qi which is a type of energy that isn't visible to us. Still, we can acknowledge its existence if we see well growing groups of fauna and flora. Ergo it is advisable to seek a site with fertile soil and an abundance of vegetation. In fact, you should avoid any soil or terrain that can't support the simplest plant life.
Mountains or hills in the area need to be considered. The ancient Chinese believe that they transport ‘qi’from a higher level to a lower level. The 'qi' will slow down and accumulate at the juncture of mild gradient or horizontal ground with the hills or mountains. When it meets water e.g. lake ot river it stops. The best place to locate a house is with a lake or river infront to stop and allow qi to accumulate, it should also be on a flat or gentle slope with mountains at the back.
Chinese sayings especially for a feng shui home means to have mountains at the back with the front towards water.
According to the ancient sages, ‘qi’ can be dispersed by the wind. It is best to face the house towards the lake or river with the lower hills on each side of it. These lower hills will provide cover from the wind and prevent the ‘qi’ from being blown away easily!
Since the majority of us are city dwellings, finding such an ideal site is next to impossible. Not all is lost.
Here are some practical tips for urban houses.
The rule on flora and fauna still stands. You should still look for rich soil and lush vegetation.
Be sure to avoid a location on a hilltop. Remember a home that's exposed to high winds cannot accumulate 'qi'. You should also avoid one that it located in a deep land locked valley as there is the danger of ‘qi’ stagnating. Avoid one located on a steep slope. Besides the danger of landslides, ‘qi’ cannot accumulate on steep slopes.
Always look for one that is located on gentle slopes with a hill or higher ground at the back. Lower land in the front of the house is ideal Facing a clean river or lake would be great. Otherwise a playground, field or other open area will do. will be enough.
What to do in the case that the ground is level and horizontal? Support at the back can be in the form of a neighbor’s house. Or you can plant some tress at the back - if you have space - to provide support. 'Qi' accumulates with the help of trees
The land in front should not be very high but it can be the same level as the house By having a water cascade or pool in front, you can ensure the stimulation of water. "Plants gather qi" according to a Chinese saying. So, if you've plants in front, that too will aid in the accumulation of ‘qi’.
Do not have a home that face a steep slope and a valley behind.
Moreover, it would be still better to have structures on either side to protect the qi from forceful winds.
Finally, the home is a place of rest ad should be located in a quiet neighborhood. You would do well to not purchase a dwelling that is in close proximity of a highly used highway full of noise, or has a highly used road at its front!
