Conquer Your Loneliness with 7 Effective Strategies

By: Rick Cowles

Loneliness is an emotional state in which a person experiences a painful awareness of not being able to connect with others and important needs are not being met. There is no over-the-counter medication that can cure loneliness, but there are several proven methods you can take to overcome it. You'll need to be proactive if you wish to banish your loneliness forever. Here are some strategies you can apply in conquering your loneliness:

1. Believe in yourself and build up your confidence. Most of the experts on loneliness agree that the fundamental strength on overcoming loneliness begins with self-development by strengthening your inner life, recognizing you're important and loving yourself. Others will be drawn to you if you are confident in yourself.

2. Reach out to others, volunteer yourself in charitable organizations and render help to anyone who needs your assistance. Volunteering is a remarkable way to beat loneliness. When you focus your mind on others, you'll be less likely to worry about your own loneliness.

3. Take effort to make friends with everyone you meet and avoid rushing into intimate friendship too quickly. Intimate friendships usually develop gradually as people learn to share their inner feelings. Value all of your friendships and their unique characteristics rather than believing that only a romantic relationship will relieve your loneliness.

4. Don't look for solution to loneliness in a sexual relationship. Aside from the very real risk of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, there are other psychological drawbacks of premature sexual activity. Long-term erotic relationship needs to be nurtured by emotional roots and love.

5. Join a society or club that share similar interests/values as yourself. Like minded people are easy to get along and develop close relationship with. Make the most of every opportunity for social contact, however slight.

6. Get out and engage in some activities. These activities don't have to cost a lot of money, just a simple walk in the park or taking your dog out for a stroll will suffice. The whole idea is to keep your mind occupied so that you'll have less time to ponder on your loneliness.

7. If your loneliness becomes unbearable, don't be afraid to seek help. You can look for support group that deals with loneliness or consult a therapist. There's nothing embarrassing about asking for help. When you ask, most often than not, you'll find help is readily available.

Loneliness does not have to be a permanent state of affairs. Loneliness is a condition that is completely curable with a little patience and some hard work. Don't let your loneliness rob the joy and happiness out of your life, get up and start putting what you've learned into practice. To your success in love, life and happiness!
