Social networking is a subject that has been gaining much interest and publicity lately. It seems that social networking is not simply a phenomenon. The best feature about social networking is that it is all about what people have in common.

Social Networking may not be a phrase that you are familiar with. Online social networking is the process of communicating with friends, business colleagues, classmates and others through the Internet. A very well known social networking site is the hugely popular MySpace. Although the field of social networking is a broad one, it basically consists of two areas: socializing with friends and professional networking. The first step in social networking is to meet as many people as you can. It is about meeting those that have like interests and being free to express yourself. It has become a part of people's identities.

Joining a social networking site enables you to gain introductions to many people who you would not otherwise be able to gain access to. Social features provided by most community sites are blogging, email, groups, classifieds and forums. Users can view profiles of friends, post comments, share photos and videos. Sharing photos, hosting or finding events, getting news and joining new conversations are the some of the great ways people are using these sites. And you thought social networking was all about text-messaging among bored teenagers. The goal of virtual networking is to “get noticed,” to meet people and to develop relationships on your own time and in your own space.

If you haven’t joined a social networking site yet, I highly recommend that you try one today. The friends that you can make are just one of the many benefits to social networking online. Most networking communities are free but they do require that you go through a registration process. Once you are registered, you should be able to start communicating with other community members. This is because, internet users are looking to chat with someone who has the same beliefs. Just remember that although online communities are a great place to meet other internet users, they can also be dangerous. Only use your first name in your profile, blog or forum posts. It is also better to use a nearby city instead of the city or town you live in. In addition to the above precautionary measures, it is advised that you do not post detailed information on your children, the location of your home, your income or when you will be gone for awhile.
